Why everyone needs to stop b*tching about the new Batman v Superman trailer
Zack Snyder and WB dropped the newest trailer to one of the most anticipated movie of 2016 last week. And of course, people are losing their minds. Some of it justified… others, not so much.
Here’s why you need to calm the hell down:
- “THE TRAILER REVEALED TOO MUCH!!!!”
While I agree there was a lot of new footage, nothing was revealed that we didn’t already know and/or suspect.
We knew that Batman and Superman would fight (well done, Sherlock), we knew that eventually they would team up, we knew that Wonder Woman would be involved (SHE’S IN TWO OTHER TRAILERS!!), we knew that Lex would do something with Zod’s body and we knew that a larger villain would be introduced that forces the Trinity to team up. We knew all of this BEFORE this trailer was released so I’m not sure why everyone’s panties are in a bunch.
- “DOOMSDAY LOOKS LIKE CRAP/ABOMINATION/A MICHAEL BAY NINJA TURTLE!!!!”
It’s such a tired argument; not every character interpretation has to match up identically from the pages of the source material. Get over it.
First, we are only assuming that we are being introduced to Doomsday in this trailer based on some common features (ie Kryptonian strength, rocky protrusions, grey skin) but it could very well be another villain (see Wraith, Bizarro).
That said, if it IS Doomsday, it is very likely that this is not his final look. Doomsday actually continues to grow spikes as he fights and by the end of this movie, or upon his return in a later film (likely a Man of Steel sequel), could look much closer to what we see in the comics. If not, it could be worse… *cough* Apocalype/Ivan Ooze *cough*
- “LEX IS WEIRD AND GOOFY LOOKING!!!!”
Yes, yes he is, but if you pay attention to the trailer, there is something much more sinister going on with Lex. I’m not too keen on his choice of hairstyle, but he seems to be pulling off a young-eccentric-genius-billionaire by day, evil-manipulative-narcissist by night like only Mark Zukerberg… I mean Jesse Eisenberg can.
I’ve heard other gripes and can address those too, but I’m rambling already.
Last, there are SO MANY things to be excited about from this footage. I’m just going to say this but Ben Affleck looks to be KILLING it as Batman AND Bruce Wayne in everything we have seen so far. Wonder Woman looks badass. The Batman vs Superman fight looks like it is going to be everything we dreamed of.
We got to see Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman on the same screen.
The Holy Trinity of comic nerds.
I don’t care if you’re a Marvel apologist or DC fanboy; you’ve waited your whole life to see this.
Really, this movie’s main hurdle will be fitting this all together in a cohesive story. The third act looks like it could get crowded. However with Justice League coming and a slew of DC Universe movies on the way, the potential has got me giddy like a schoolgirl… or boy.
